Devlog Week04: First Production Week

Art Department:

For the first week of production our artists banded together to create environmental art. Since the level makes up a big part of our game, we decided to give it priority.

For the foundation of our level, we  these tilable textures and rocks.

Using modular assets, we aim to create a variety of Aztec themed ruins. Below you will find the building blocks that we believe will allow us to achieve this. The Aztec ruins will create some opportunities for verticallity while also breaking up the organic look of the rest of the environment with some manmade structures

We added foliage that bring a lot of life to the environment. We also made a small example of a Aztec ruin to see how it will all blend together.

This is a small sneakpeak of how our level will look

We are enthusiastic to work hard and create more art for our game. Taking steps to take our assets into an actual level will be next step!

Programming Department :

The focus for this week was on the menu.
For now we implemented a simple main menu where you can choose to play the game, go to the options menu or if you'd like you can also exit the game.

The options menu for now consist of :

  • A brightness slider to easily adjust the brightness to your liking.
  • A graphics dropdown list to set your graphics from very low to ultra.
  • A fullscreen button
  • And a resolution dropdown

We also implemented a pause menu in-game that stops the flow of time so no need to worry about dying while the game is paused.
From this menu you can either resume,  go back to the main menu or just exit the game.

The last screen we made for this week was a victory screen that gets triggered when enough food is collected.

Some code has been rewritten and was reimplemented in a new project:

  • Player rotates towards the movedirection
