Dev log Week 02: Prototyping
Prototyping
For this week we asked ourselves 3 questions:
- Is the net mechanic working good and is it fun to play?
- Which artstyle are we going for?
- How do we create the assets as fast as possible while maintaining the quality?
Net mechanic
We struggled at first with the net mechanic because of the physics glitches and weird orientation of the net but those problems are fixed at this point and we we are now improving the gameplay feel so that its fun and entertaining. In the next stage we will be improving upon this feature.
Camera
The camera is essential as we have 4 players on the screen moving in all direction and they all need to be visible at any time. So the camera finds the centerpoint of all the players and stays in that place while going up or down depending how close/far the players are
Art
To get the most assets in the shortest amount of time while maintaining quality we have chosen for making the general assets with an handpainted atlas. This way we can reuse the texture and give the models more definition and less focus on lighting since we paint it in our models itself. For the characters we will use their unique textures so we can customize it later. For example, we can change the color of each player character while using almost the same texture.
As for next week:
- Making a level design
- Creating the first playable version of the game
- implementing the art from the artists in the game
